I pinned a flower template onto the felt (I used a Martha Stewart Weddings flower template I found here, but you could use any flower you like). This flower will serve as your base.
Cut out your flower and sew it directly to your shirt, following the edges. Be careful not to sew your shirt together like I did... oops. When you are done, your shirt should look something like this:
Then you are going to cut a strip of felt 1 3/4" by the width of the fabric (mine was 45"). Sew along one side of the strip using a long basting stitch and leave your threads long at the ends. Gently pull on the bobbin thread on both ends and gather the strip as tight as you would like your flower to be. After gathering your strip should look like this:
Carefully stitch your strip onto the base flower on your t-shirt in a circular motion, stopping to "fluff" and shape your flower at every turn. When you are done the finished product should look like this:
I made one for each of my little girls, and I can't wait to show them when they wake up tomorrow!
